Scam phone calls

Police would like to alert residents to fraudsters attempting to obtain details of bank and credit cards to steal money from accounts. These calls are being reported on a regular basis on Barbican Estate and surrounding areas.

 

Criminals may have a few details about you and phone to say they are from your bank, police, a government agency or internet provider to say that there has been fraudulent activity in your bank account or a fault on your computer system. They will try to convince you that you cannot trust any other people with the intention of stealing money from you.

 

It is very unlikely that these organisations would contact you in such circumstances and if you do believe they are genuine tell them that you will call them back. Take time to check the correct contact details for the organisation from an independent source and leave a gap of at least 5 minutes before calling them.

 

It is important to remember that banks, credit card companies, police and other agencies will never ask for your PIN number, collect your cards or money.
