The City conducted a consultation on the future of the community centre recently.
Given the recent decision to close the centre, something anticipated by the consultation, it would be good to know the outcome.

Thanks

The Barbican Area strategy is worth looking at as it is a thoughtful approach to the whole area.  Most of it focuses on the need to cope with increased pedestrians because of Crossrail but it is still very relevant to Golden Lane.

re:  Barbican Area Strategy

"A final version of the area strategy will be available to download from the City of London website if the Court of Common Council adopts the strategy in December.  Please note that while the area strategy supports environmental improvements in principle, new housing was not part of the original project brief approved by Members."

Artizan Street redesign

A taste of the consultation at Middlesex Street Estate.

Some of the results will be on the Quarterly Open Meeting which we have videoed.

I would like to 2nd Martha's comments.

There have always been plenty of the older residents making use of the bar for such activities as bingo and socialising.  Sadly few of the leaseholders seem to support the bar.  Hence my suggestion of a public and lounge to split the length of the room.

Does anyone know how much the rent was to the Corporation?  I might be tempted to take the beast on, if I knew, as I have an alcohol license with the City.

Truly the space of the Centre should not be used to solve problems of the Guildhall.

As for the downstairs bar…… it too is used but could perhaps use a facelift as it is very long/large but with a rather low ceiling.  If it turns out that we have to sacrifice some space of that for the Estate Office, pehaps a corridor could be created leading to an office taking the deeper window area of the existing bar but preserving the bar for community use?  Honestly…. to complain of noise as a major problem is very exaggerated....  The Centre is something to be valued and improved not abandoned for uses that the Corporation may see as priority given the needs of places outside the Estate.

I am a little confused at Q9 "what one thing would make a difference for the community living and working in Golden Lane?"which shows 25 out of 75 in pale blue but there is no key for pale blue.  Are these 'don't knows' at 33%?

The summary then goes on to say that "A major area of concern is the physical condition of the Estate, which is now seen to be in a serious state of decline. " but only 4 out of 75 (5%) support Refurbishment-  with far more supporting other solutions.

Am I missing something?

Well done for getting it done.

If you send a note to GLERA secretary, details in the survey, she will be able to provide further information. Paul

I forgot to post Sue's response:

The light blue is actually Buildings/maintenance showing the large number of comments on the state of the estate  (25)  the refurbishment section was specifically as 2 people spoke specifically about the community centre being refurbished.
