I know that a lot of people are concerned about a letter from a contractor sent to tenants saying that they will be calling to survey their flats over the next week or so to see if the property should have a new bathroom, kitchen or boiler under the "Decent Homes Programme" (shame they didn't mention the windows!).

 This has caused some consternation and confusion as:
  • The leaflet doesn't bear a City letterhead, just the company's name;
  • Most people are aware that kitchens and bathrooms were done a few years ago and wonder why they are being inspected again;
  • A lot of people have heard about the boiler replacement programme and these surveys don't seem to fit in with that timescale;
  • The survey dates are the end of next week / early in Bank holiday week - which doesn't seem like a very sensible time to survey properties as many people will be away.
Some people have even asked if it is a scam of some sort to find out which flats are empty over the Bank Holiday.

I have been in touch with Ian in the Estate Office (in Laurence's absence) and he has confirmed that the letters are genuine. Apparently they were done by the company who failed to get the City's letterhead and just went ahead and printed the letters.

I don't understand this, the estate office told me that I didn't receive the letter because I had new kitchen and bathroom the last time around and yet I'm sure I need new heating system and electrical consumer unit as included on this letter.
