City of London

Life expectancy in the City of London is the highest in the UK according to a report in today's Guardian.

For men it is 90.7 years compared to the national average of 85.7 years.
For women it is 92.6 years compared to the national average of 87.6 years.

It would be interesting to understand the reason for this.

Is it statistically sound with such a small residential population?

Is it a benefit of living in two well-designed estates?

Is it because we have a very stable community of people, many of whom moved here in the 1950s? and what does this say about the benefits of inner city living?

And most importantly, how does this impact on the services that are needed to support people in their eighties and nineties especially if they are living alone?

Don't know. I assume it was only people within city boundary.
