Refugee appeal drop iff at Community centre details below

s many of you will know, the City of London is hosting around 500 Afghan refugees in hotels while they await resettlement to permanent accommodation. 270 are under 18, and we would like to provide some holiday cheer for our new neighbours with presents for them.

Please donate new or unused unwrapped items, ideally in a tote bag. Drop off at Lauderdale Tower December 11-15 from [9 am - 6 pm]. We would like to give each child/teenager (mostly boys) a tote bag with 2 or 3 things. There are 190 children up to 12 yrs and 80 teenagers.

Please note, nothing with small parts/choke hazards - either for children or teenagers as families are living in close quarters - or anything war-related or of a religious nature. If you’d prefer to make a financial donation, I’ll give account details.

Children’s ideas could be:
Soft toys
Soft balls
Hats/gloves
Colouring
Pencils/crayons
stickers
cars
dolls

teenage suggestions:
rubix cube
fidget toys
headphones
grown up colouring books
stationery
hats/gloves
fun socks
scrunchies
wash bag
cosmetics

In addition, at the Golden Lane Community Centre we will be collecting good quality, clean, lightly used and in excellent condition clothing and toys for the City’s Welcome Store, as well as new gifts. The greatest need is for clothes for women and teens, but all top quality donations are welcome. Warm Winter clothing, coats and footwear are particularly needed for children and adults as are school uniform appropriate shirts and trousers for both primary and secondary school children.

Please note that used clothes and toys can only be accepted at Golden Lane Community Centre,
Please ensure that children’s clothes are sorted by age and gender and are clean as we have no facilities for washing. And we can only accept excellent quality items.

Golden Lane hours are:

Saturday 11th: 10 - 6
Sunday 12th: 10-6
Monday 13th: 8-4
Tuesday 14th: 10-6
Wednesday 15th: 8-2
