Event Description

The Culture Mile is an initiative which aims to transform the north-west corner of the Square Mile. It is led by a partnership of the City of London Corporation, the Barbican, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London Symphony Orchestra and Museum of London.

The 'Look and Feel' public realm strategy aims to improve way-finding, signage and public spaces across the Culture Mile to provide a fitting welcome and enhanced environment for visitors to the cultural institutions in the area and animate the public realm, so it becomes a destination itself.

Four themes have been identified for environmental enhancements and other projects to improve the area:

  • Form a Culture Spine by creating a linear public space stretching from Farringdon Road in the west to Moorgate in the east
  • Take the Inside Out and bring the activity of cultural institutions to the streets, engaging visitors, workers and residents
  • Discover and Explore by reinforcing the area's varying social, cultural and architectural history
  • Be Recognisable, Be Different as a place where the spaces between buildings are animated with public art; and where cultural activity is produced as well as consumed

Consultation closes on 4 February. For more information see www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/lookandfeel
