Dear Golden Lane Residents,
We spent several hours talking with the Architects, planners, City of London Surveyors, Landscape Architects and the head teacher of the new school yesterday. There is another presentation this Saturday at the School Site.
One thing came across in the course of the discussions. The proposed School Hall is sited in a really problematic place. It will create noise and kitchen smells and disturbance for the residents of the estate and block views. They plan to use our access mews and turn it into a public road for access to the Hall and servicing the kitchens. We think it should be connected directly to the school on the North side of the site instead.
The tower block is way too dominant - its going to be visible from all the public areas of the Estate. Try standing in front of Bayer or Bowater House and imagine the tower block looming over Basterfield! It needs to be reduced in size and stepped down as it approaches the estate.
So if you are going to the consultation on Saturday, have a look for yourself. See if you agree with our comments and please make these two points to the team that will be there.
I attach a plan summarising our comments - now new and improved following the Thursday consultation.
Finally - there will be a meeting for residents to follow up on this and discuss what action we will be taking on
Monday 6th March at 7pm at the Community Centre. Look forward to seeing you there.
