Charles Humphries replied to Charles Humphries's discussion RCS Site | Alternative Plans
"Yes, all good points Iain. There is a bit more space between Block 2 and the playground than it appears from this angle, when we publish the plans it will be possible to check that. Alternative 1 is probably still overt development, but because it…"

Iain Meek replied to Charles Humphries's discussion RCS Site | Alternative Plans
"Alternative 2 looks like a rational approach.  Some doubts about the wisdom of block 2 blocking all sunlight to the proposed school...perhaps better to increase the size of blocks 1 & 3?  I still think the geometry of any new buildings…"

RCS Site | Alternative Plans

I want to share the alternative proposals that we have been developing for the RCS site. Low Rise Alternative 1 would place the school under the housing and sink the playground in the same way as Basterfield Lawn and the tennis courts are sunk. This would help with the acoustics of the playground and create extra space to avoid the need for a high rise tower.Alternative 2 would use the existing primary school building at the rear of the site for the school, and devote the whole of the RCS site…See More

Charles Humphries replied to Tim Godsmark's discussion Concrete Repairs
"In my experience when you only get two tenders and they are so far apart, you have to go back out and re-tender to establish the correct price. Am I right in thinking that the concrete repair works are being done as part of the (overdue)…"

RCS/CoLPAI Tower | Daylighting

GLERA asked for the daylighting report that was prepared with the application to be reconfigured so that the loss of daylight to each flat was made clear. The new addendum (attached) has done this, so now the extent of the problem is clear.Altogether 80 Flats in Basterfield, Hatfield and Banner House will have their daylight reduced, of those 55 flats will lose more daylight than BRE guidelines allow. Some lose 50% of the daylight to their windows.(That is where they will end up with less than…See More

Charles Humphries replied to Lee Bailey's discussion Dangers of u-turning vehicles on Fann Street
"I walked down to Barbican Station last night around 10pm and saw two black cabs making a U-turn in the entrance to Fann Street as you have described. I'd say its something the cabs have figured out and have got into the habit of."

Charles Humphries replied to Lee Bailey's discussion Dangers of u-turning vehicles on Fann Street
"That is a helpful reply from John Tomlinson. It looks like there would be scope to change the profile of the pavement there and maybe create what I think they call a "raised table" across the junction. The big sweep of the roadway pushes…"

Charles Humphries replied to Lee Bailey's discussion Dangers of u-turning vehicles on Fann Street
"Hi Lee, Are these vehicles coming South down Aldersgate Street (from Old Street) and making a U-turn to go back North? I'm not sure that I've seen zebra crossings used on corners like that. But in Islington they do often widen the pavement…"
