There Are Biscuits. A personal view from the Islington Planning Meeting

The man in uniform knows a rabble rouser when he sees one. “Are these… persons with you?” he asks warily eyeing the group of thirty or so Golden Laneites who had braved the blizzard conditions and the strange bio-diesel tang of the No.4 bus to make it up Islington Town Hall. We review the troops. The council’s porter was a man who’d seen a thing or two in his time. “Just keep it civilised, you know - have a coffee, have a cup of tea… no arguing with the supporters, no–you know–fighting”, he…See More

We are at the meeting of the City Planning and Transportation meeting this morning where the City has come up with a wizard wheeze to avoid dealing with the planning decision for the Richard Cloudesley School site. The RCS site straddles the boundary between Islington and the City, so the City planners…See More

As far as I can establish the estate was last redecorated in 2005. By next summer that will be 13 years. A normal cycle of redecoration would be 7 years. The paint is literally falling off Basterfield House. Here are the little deposits of paint all along Basterfield Mews that we woke up to this morning, caused by water freezing under the paint surface and blowing it off.Over one third of the concrete repair bill is for "access". Apparently the concrete repairs will be carried out by abseiling…See More
