Bernard Morgan House

Bernard Morgan House in Fann Street is a former Police Section House (hostel for police officers and court staff). The building has now been sold to Taylor Wimpey London and planning permission has been granted to build luxury housing.

Many local residents have challenged this decision on the following grounds:

  • The proposal conflicts with national and local planning policies, notably protection of the setting of important designated assets, infringements in standards to exisiting dwellings and failure to provide sufficient affordable housing
  • The proposal has a harmful impact on the amenities within an adjacent borough and this impact has not been adequately considered
  • The objections raised by 182 local people affected by the proposed development have not been fully or properly considered
  • There seem to be vested interests within the City of London Corporation which prejudice the ability of its Planning Committee to make a balanced judgement

You can support the campaign to nullify the planning permission by donating here. Funds raised to date have helped pay for an independent sunlight/overshadowing report which has found some extraordinary inaccuracies in the Taylor Wimpey overshadowing report, a barrister to write a Pre-Action Protocol letter to the City of London and then to write a commentary on the City’s answer to that letter along with specialist legal advice on the prospects of an application to the Planning Court for permission to judicially review the City's decision.

As of October 26 the campaign has lodged detailed grounds and all the necessary papers with the Planning Court and are waiting for the City and Taylor Wimpey to file a reply before the court makes a decision whether the Judicial Review can proceed.  See recent interview with ITN news below
