Dear Neighbour

As you may have seen on-site, ISG has been setting up additional welfare cabins. The additional elements of welfare are needed to accommodate staff and to comply with social distancing guidelines.

Over the next 12 months, ISG will need to provide welfare to accommodate 120-150 operatives, depending on the programme demands. They are obligated to provide toilets, changing rooms and canteen facilities for these operatives to meet all current Health and Safety guidelines. Under the current COVID-19 social distancing restrictions, this means significantly increasing the on-site welfare provision to ensure compliance with all Government guidelines and provide a safe working environment for their staff and site operatives.

To facilitate this increased welfare provision, ISG has installed 10 additional cabins adjacent to the London College of Fashion, created welfare space within the footprint of the new school and will soon install welfare within the ground floor of the residential block. However, this is still not sufficient to meet the social distancing restrictions and ISG has had to install a welfare cabin above the UKPN temporary substation adjacent to Basterfield House service road. The position and height of the cabin has been agreed with UKPN, as well as the City of London Corporation (the City Corporation) and complies with permitted development requirements. The height of the cabin is a UKPN requirement, as we must ensure they have access to the transformers. In addition to this cabin, ISG will soon install a site storage platform above their existing welfare cabins to compensate for the loss of ground level storage and make the working areas within the site safer.

ISG worked with the City Corporation and planning consultants, Montagu Evans, to limit the number of welfare units/storage platforms required and minimise the impact on our neighbours. ISG will be obscuring and closing the rear windows to the offices to prevent overlooking and will screen the storage platform and ensure there is no invasion of privacy.

The situation surrounding COVID-19 is ever-changing. Our team is consistently monitoring and following Government guidance on social distancing to ensure we can limit the time these cabins are needed on-site.

Best wishes
