Walk Leader Training

Islington Council Greenspace and Leisure team offers a free one-course for people who would like to be a trained walk leader. Run by Islington Guided Walks, the aim of the course is for people who live and work in Islington to have the knowledge, ability, and confidence to offer to Islington residents a one-off walk or a regular walk. The course includes:

  • The benefits of taking people on a walk.
  • How to plan a successful and enjoyable walk with practical tips on key considerations such as providing interest and variety, client safety, comfort and inclusion, and pitfalls to avoid.
  • The opportunity to work collaboratively planning and trying out a real walk in the green spaces and streets around The Ecology Centre.

Participants are very positive about the course:

  • We absolutely loved the walk leader training! It is so inspiring and relevant.
  • A voluntary group attended a course and now offers walks to its service users.

The date of the next course will be fixed according to trainees’ availability. If interested in attending the training, email john.thorne@islington.gov.uk
