Oh dear!  When we had a fire in Crescent House, no one answered the out of hours phone.  Also, when I did get through on one occasion, I was refused help, and the police had to intervene.  This so called service has failed the residents several times, yet we are told it won't happen again.  Wrong!  I tried to call this afternoon but the phone was switched off, and remains so.

Last week I reported to the Estate Office that a lot of water was overflowing over the roof of one of the top floor flats in Crescent House. The drain on the roof was blocked.  Someone turned up, but failed to clear it, and again water came over the roof.  The resident was away, so I phoned Waites and asked for someone to come out.  I was refused on 'Health and Safety' grounds, as apparently workmen were not allowed onto wet roofs!  Well, if the roof was dry, obviously we would not need anyone.  There was a concern that water could get into the flat, and also it was pouring down to the lower floors.

The strange thing was a few weeks ago the same thing happened, after heavy rain, to another neighbour's roof.  Eventually 2 workmen appeared with a ladder, and got on the roof and cleared the drain.  Job done!

Can anyone explain why they can clear one wet roof, but not another one?  If it wasn't so daft I would think it was some kind of joke.  That's why I tried to phone the after hours 'service'. which is where I came in.

I had a response from the Estate Office that the after hours phone was switched off by 'error'.  How many times have we heard that one?  Despite assurances that it won't happen again, it still does.  Am reporting this back to the rest of the Committee.  Am still none the wiser why contractors could clear one wet roof but not another one, but am looking into it!
