Support needed for our Golden Lane Community Centre URGENT...

I have just heard some appalling news about the Community Centre being under threat.

The Community Centre will be lost if we don't all support the volunteers that look after it and make sure it stays a Community Center.

I may not be an avid user of the place, however I feel it is a very important part of this estate.

It was built specifically for this purpose and should remain a hub and a place for residents to share, meet and celebrate.

If you do not speak up it will disappear and God knows what commercial venture will be put in its place If at all...it may become a dead empty space with no license to host a thing!!! surely this is not what residents want here.

Please Make yourself heard and talk to the estate office to see if you can support them or go and speak to the staff in the Community Centre. They need to know they are not alone in this appeal.

You have to act now...

Another resident alerted me this morning to the fact that the Community Centre`s license needed to be renewed?   I was not aware of any legal action myself.   Apparently, two notices have been put up in and outside the Community Centre?   I shall investigate tomorrow.  If anyone else can enlighten me, that would be good!

Thanks Christine.  I`ll have a look now!

Just found the application on the COL website.  Bit long winded eh haha!

I think there is some misunderstanding. The action is not against the community centre. It is in opposition to the license for the bar. It is the result of continuing tensions between some of the families that live beside the community centre who have been victims of anti-social behaviour from some of the users of the bar and the smokers who gather outside. Not pleasant on your own doorstep.

Yes, I understand now Jax, not legal action as such.  Interesting reading the objections/comments on the COL website.

Well put Christine that's what I meant really, its the consequences and knock on effect

It does point to the inherent problems of trying to run commercial bar premises in the middle of an housing estate and the impact this has on residents...ie Shakespeare and Community Centre.

Yes, the Shakespeare is a problem too.    I have been reading the objection letters accompanying the Comm. Centre license application on the COL website and clearly residents have suffered badly!    One of the reasons I moved from where I lived before was noise, so it`s a topic I can relate to.  I urge all residents interested in this topic to read those letters!    Further to the resident that first mentioned this to me, I looked inside the Comm. entrance this morning and saw no sign anywhere.   I did see a sign tucked around the back of the building though.  So what has happened to one inside???

We should probably close everything down including the leisure centre due to the complaints there and all the clubs and bars in Smithfield as they walk past through and around the estate every Friday and Saturday night in the early hours.

I have been in the social club when police have been called. There have been 6 people in the bar all elderly, all chatting quietly, no one outside.

The so called Corbusier idea of having social clubs, and other communal facilities like sport etc clearly no longer works here for some residents.
p.s. Attached links from the COL website.

Yes, double glazing would be a great benefit for sure.

I have just been told that we should all put these comments on the city of london link you mentioned.
It seems views need to be balanced out as the positives far out weigh a few complaints.
It's recommended that positive comment should be added too.

We are all so concerned with negative things the next thing is it disappears and lost forever
A bit like what's happening to the nhs .

I need to look up the link u mentioned
Oh I just been burgled smashed my front door in
Feel sad
Maybe that should go on there
