I live in stanley Cohen. Every weekend and most weekdays I get woken by what I can only describe as caveman antics. Drunken idiots who seem to have to scream and shout when they consume any form of alcohol. Last night was no different. But when do people feel that they should do something. I heard a very aggressive man shouting and screaming. He seemed to be directing a lot of this anger at a woman. I have no double glazing so believe it or not I can hear people's conversations as they walk by. After some more shouting she started screaming. I have heard this so many times before and it usually is because they are drunk and acting stupidly. But what if he was attacking her. It's almost got to the stage of cry wolf. I hear it so often that I don't believe anything bad is happening.
Secondly every year a few bunches of flowers are left on a lamp post near my block for a young lady who died here. I woke up this morning and found they had been ripped down and torn apart except for one small bunch. This is the second time this has happened. It was just a little sign of respect from a family to their daughter. What is wrong with some people

We have the builders in at Crescent House , in the eye practice optician on the parade of shops, carrying out a shop re-fit, new shop front signage using SDS drills etc, lets hope they don't keep it up till 11 pm as they did two years ago when they did a re fit, suppose doing it out of hours late at night on Sunday in breech of the rules will save them having to loose trading hours. At least they didn't start at eight a.m. till 11pm at the weekend as they did the two years ago , thank heaven for small mercies.
I used to live in Stanley Cohen and agree a lot of noise can come from Golden Lane itself and the estates opposite. There were a couple of instances where noise was coming from inside the Estate (I vividly remember a particularly loud argument similar to the one you describe here although with a child also involved, which left me torn between get involved and being frightened to do so. I have to disagree with the flowers on the post though. I never understood why these people felt it was okay to display their personal grief so publicly and why their grief seemed to take precedence over anyone else's. Grief should be a private thing and not made a public spectacle so I have to commend whoever took those flowers down. That's been going on for years now.
Michael, sorry, but why do you refer to those who put up flowers for their departed loved ones as 'these people'? And who said their grief took precedence over any one else's? How can you possibly 'commend' anyone for ripping these flowers down? So what if it has been going on for years. Is it harming you personally? I was not aware of this until Shane put up the post. I agree with him. It is shameful that anyone disturb or interfere with someone's tribute to a loved one. I have a bench outside my flat, which has a plaque dedicated to my beloved little dog, who passed away some years ago, and a commemorative cushion was stolen from it. Do you think that is acceptable too?

I've also heard many arguments from inside the flats. Neighbors throwing things at each other and threatening to punch their beloved in the face. Such nice people!!
I respect your views on the flowers but I don't agree though. I don't have a problem with people displaying their grief. Every person deals with things like this in different ways. Theirs was to put a small bunch of flowers on a post in memory of their daughter. It doesn't hurt anyone. And the flowers weren't taken down. They were ripped down and torn to shreds. But like I said that's just my view and we all have the right to think what we like. That's what makes us what we are.
And I thought public expression of grief and the laying of flowers was an English tradition, and I know it is all over latin America.
Lady Diana Spencer?
I remember the public expression of grief for Lady Diana Spencer, and the acres of flowers laid for her, and I wonder what would have happened to any "commendable" aggressive drunk person or persons who took it upon themselves to express their disproval by going on the rampage ripping to pieces flower bouquets, the police would have been bad enough but nothing compared to what the crowds would have meted out.
Remembrance Sunday?
Sir William wallace?
The flowers are laid all year round at the memorial for him at Barts hospital, and he was slaughter more than 700 hundred years ago.
The laying of flowers through grief is a natural response to the death of a loved one.
Live and let live.
Well said Nathan! I also left flowers for Diana.
Nice to hear the clatter of power tools on Saturday at 7:20pm as a happy shop keeper on the parade of shops under Crescent House happily goes about some diy all evening, outside their shop, wouldn't want to get dust inside the shop, just take outside above the tennis courts and carry on. Wonder how long they will be at it.
Especially when you have shop keepers who are buy to rent landlords, who feel the rules regarding noise, diy and building works do not apply to them, who have builders in to have work done on their buy to rent property on an easter bank holiday weekend, and decide to do diy outside their shop after 7pm on a saturday.
