Police would like to warn residents about a distraction burglar believed to be operating in this area. The suspect will try to gain entry into a residential property by pretending to be a trade person. Previously they have also asked to borrow a pen and piece of paper to leave a note for a neighbouring property. Once at the door, or inside the property, they will use a technique to distract the homeowner’s attention in order to steal from them.

Residents are asked to make sure that they do not let anybody tailgate into buildings. Challenge them politely if necessary and refuse offers of assistance from strangers through main entrance doors. When allowing people into the building by the intercom system, make sure that you know who they are and that they are visiting you. Ensure that you have seen identification before letting them into your home.

A genuine visitor will be happy to prove their identity and a person wishing to visit another flat can do so with assistance of the car park attendant or estate office. If you deem a person to be acting in a suspicious manner, please inform police as soon as you can so they can attend whilst the suspicious person is still on the estate.

Good to read that our police are aware and publicising this.  Well done!
