Has someone already asked this?

Has the new cladding and insulation on Great Arthur been fully fire tested?

It's a glass and metal alloy curtain wall NOT cladding - it has a melt temperature of 600C which is lower than it's burn temperature.
Are you back on the Estate again Iain?
I know you were keen to get back if you could?

Just to address Iain's concern regarding the insulation, this is what I found out:

The insulating material being used at GAH is called Fixrock 035LB which, encouragingly, is a mineral based product in the (safest, non-combustible) A1 category under European Standard EN 13501 - 1. The standard is explained in the document via the link below:

Clearly, one needs to assess the fire resilience of the complete system, but it is good to learn that the insulation material used in the refurbishment of GAH is not of the flammable variety.

The City Corporation is re-examining fire safety and fire procedures for its housing stock and I am also confident that the issue will be discussed at the next meeting of the City Corporation's Housing Management Sub-Committee.

Many thanks for that reassuring information, David.  Excellent work.

I did note a fork lift with a load of pink polystyrene board in the builder's compound over the weekend. It would be good to know where this is going.

It was reported at the Court of Common Council last Thursday that 300mm of cladding was to be removed from Great Arthur House. This has now been done as it did not meet the Corporation's non flammable requirements for all materials used in the refurbishment. The material has been sent for testing. In addition other refurbishment materials have been sent for testing although it is expected that they will prove to be satisfactory. This is just an additional precaution. Please come to the meeting tonight at 7pm at Golden Lane Community Centre to hear the fire safety officer Terence Short answer your questions. Your common councillors will also be present.
